Who could turn down a plate of tasting rice, flavored by fresh seafood from our sea, vegetables from the Valencian orchards, delicious extra virgin olive oil and that miracle of nature that is the saffron?
Paella is worldwide known! Of course, the real recipe of Valencian paella is very argued: some say it doesn´t have seafood, but meat and snails, others say that the base are vegetables, chicken, garrofó beans… Ah, but something that we all agree on is that paella with chorizo, is not paella! Because paella is not just “rice with things”. Paella is something serious.
Where you can eat a great paella, as well as many other delicacies of our land, is a city in the comarca of Marina Alta: the international benchmark of the gastronomy, that is the city of Dénia. It is a port city where gastronomy and food industries are the main economic drivers. Concepts like the Mediterranean diet and Slow Food are written in the DNA of its people. So much that it earned the city the designation of Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO.
In Dénia there are other typical dishes, like many kinds of rice (arroz a banda, arroz con bogavante…), dried octopus, espencat, coca (a kind of pizza without chesse)… and, for the desert, pumpkin frittes, sweet potato cakes, coca María or just a simple amazing fresh orange.
Where can you taste a superb paella in Dénia? There are many restaurants that made the city worthy of the UNESCO appreciation. For instance, Restaurante El Faralló (Carrer Fènix, 10, 03700 Rotes beach, Dénia, Alicante).
